Arsenal make contact to sign Madrid star, he doesn’t want to play for Madrid again
Arsenal are one of the clubs to have shown the most interest in signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Diario AS journalist Eduardo Burgos.
The Gunners are monitoring his situation heading into the summer and have made informal contacts with the representatives of the Brazilian, who is disgruntled at the La Liga club.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Rodrygo is not only considering leaving Madrid, but he also does not want to play for them again having fallen out of favour following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe in the last summer transfer window.
His relationship with his teammates has also deteriorated significantly, which could be good news for Arsenal and other suitors ahead of the summer window.
The North London club want to bolster their attack and are keen to sign a winger, and while Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams is a top target, his Madrid counterpart will be a much cheaper option.
The 24-year-old has 11 goals and seven assists across the Champions League and La Liga this term, and he is capable of playing on both wings, as a striker and behind one.
Rodrygo could prove to be an upgrade on his compatriot and Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli, and sporting director Andrea Berta could look to secure his services if manager Mikel Arteta is convinced he is good enough for his team.
Injuries and poor recruitment last summer led to a lack of quality depth in attack for the Gunners when it mattered most this season, and they cannot afford to head into next season without additions in the position.
Rodrygo has the versatility, quality and experience Arsenal want in a forward, and a move to the Emirates Stadium club could appeal to him after watching them demolish Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
