Bay Area Preps HQ: This Week’s Stars

Audrey Allen, Miramonte cross country

The junior clocked in at exactly 14 minutes on Saturday during the 48th annual Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay, which was 25 seconds faster than any other girl on the course.

Casey Concepcion, Alhambra water polo

In a thrilling 13-12 overtime victory over Benicia, the junior finished with seven goals, five assists and four steals.

Troy Franklin, Menlo-Atherton football

The No. 10 recruit in the nation among the Class of 2021, according to 247Sports, took a pitch 42 yards to the house on the first play from scrimmage as M-A ended a three-game skid with a 46-13 rout of Arroyo Grande. He also added a pair of receiving TDs.

Jayden Frazier, The King’s Academy football

Scored five touchdowns and rushed for 203 yards on 22 carries in the Knights’ 42-19 win over Cochrane-Alberta. The senior also caught three passes for 34 yards in the victory.

Amber Gobel, Irvington water polo

In her team’s wins over Bishop O’Dowd and Piedmont, the junior led the way with 10 goals, three assists and five steals as Irvington improved to 9-3 on the season.

Grant Harper, Campolindo football

Completed 14 of his 17 passes for 267 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Cougars’ 35-7 win over Alhambra. The 6-foot-2 senior also rushed for 27 yards on two carries.

Tristan Hofmann, Half Moon Bay football

Made an impact on both sides of the ball in the Cougars’ 25-0 win over San Mateo. In addition to rushing for 153 yards, including touchdowns of 17 and 71 yards, Hofman had 12 tackles, including three for losses.

Matilda Hallowell, Berkeley water polo

Finished with six goals, three assists and a steal as Berkeley defeated Piedmont 16-12 to run its record to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Jeremy Kain, Scotts Valley cross country

The sophomore crossed the finish line faster than any other boy Saturday during the 48th annual Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay. His time of 12 minutes, 11 seconds was a blink faster than Saratoga sophomore Harrison Dance (12:16).

Kelsey Matthies, Soquel water polo

Led the way with eight goals, an assist and three steals as Soquel edged Monte Vista 13-11 at the Acalanes tournament to improve to 10-4 on the season.

Dashiel McFarland, Berkeley water polo

Has 107 goals on the season after scoring nine while leading Berkeley to a 19-6 victory over Piedmont. He also had three steals and an assist in the match as the Yellowjackets remained perfect with an 18-0 record.

Jack Miller, San Rafael football

Compiled 367 total yards and six touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 55-29 victory over Novato. The 6-3 senior passed for 207 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Tevita Moimoi, Sacred Heart Prep football

The punishing running back found the end zone on runs of 29 and 9 yards to end the first half as SHP established its dominance in a 42-10 victory over Terra Nova. He finished with 17 carries for 117 yards.

Avant Muldrow, Pittsburg football

Rushed for 170 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries in the Pirates’ 49-33 win over Freedom. He also caught six passes for 86 yards and a score in the victory.

Isaiah Newell, Las Lomas football

Ran for 297 yards and five touchdowns in the first half of the Knights’ 49-7 victory over Miramonte. The Oregon State-bound Newell is rated the top running back recruit in the Bay Area by 247Sports.



Elena Radeff, Sacred Heart Prep volleyball

The 6-foot-1 senior recorded a season-high 28 kills in a sweep of Notre Dame-San Jose this past Thursday.

Samantha Sternfels, Tamalpais water polo

Had 23 goals, 10 assists and 12 steals while leading her team to first place at the Northgate tournament with wins over Washington-Fremont (14-3), Pinole Valley (17-2) and Northgate (12-7).

Payton Stokes, Saratoga football

Completed 21 of his 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 42-27 victory over Monta Vista. The senior also rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries in the win.

Malique Sumler, Oak Grove football

Averaged 11 yards a carry (138 yards total), had a 32-yard reception and scored two touchdowns in a 35-0 victory over Independence.

Okela Turituri, Wilcox football

Returned a blocked punt 35 yards for a touchdown and also intercepted a fourth-down pass as Los Gatos was threatening to score, contributions that helped propel Wilcox to a 37-0 victory over its previously undefeated opponent.
