In a great team performance, Canada edged China 17-16 in a shootout at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju. In a back and forth affair, the Canadian women were trailing by one with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter. Kyra Christmas netted her third goal of the day to force a shootout. Both teams were perfect after six rounds when Canadian goalkeeper, Claire Wright, made a crucial save to give her team the advantage. Hayley McKelvey made no mistakes and converted her shot to help Canada record the 17-16 victory.
