The 2025 Volleyball Hall of Fame Inductees
October 18th saw the latest group of volleyball legends inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. The event took place in Holyoke, MA, where the game was invented in 1895 by YMCA PE director William G. Morgan.
The game has come on leaps and bounds since then, with a selection of leagues and tournaments around the world, as well as being represented at the Olympics. Before revolutionizing ParaVolley, he served as the president of Australia’s Volleyball Association between 1988 and 1997, as well as working as the Olympic competition manager at the Sydney 2000 games.
Dimitar Karov
81-year-old indoor star, Dimitar Karov of Bulgaria, is a three-time Olympian who is widely regarded as one of his country’s most prominent figures in the sport. He made an impact playing internationally and at the club level for CSKA Sofia.
Laura Ludwig
German beach volleyball star Laura Ludwig was part of the iconic duo, alongside Kira Walkenhorst, who became the first European women’s gold winners at the 2016 games in Rio. The formidable pairing went on to win the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2017, as well as four European Championships.
Ivan Miljkovic
Serbian Ivan Miljkovic is one of the indoor male game’s most fearsome attackers, helping Yugoslavia to Olympic Gold in 2000. His impressive CV includes multiple podium finishes, and he has also won league championships in Italy, Turkey, and Greece.

Argentinian referee, Guillermo “Willy” Paredes, has officiated for decades and is one of the most respected figures in the game. He has refereed key fixtures at the Olympics, World Championships, World Cups, and countless league games during his impressive career.
Francesca Piccinini
Italian indoor star Francesca Piccinini was at the peak of the sport for decades, competing in 4 Olympics and helping Italy to its first FIVB World Championship in 2002. She helped Italy to a variety of medals, and was also instrumental in club victories, winning several Serie A1 titles and seven CEV Champions Leagues.
Rosa Garcia Rivas
Peruvian indoor star Rosa ‘China’ Garcia Rivas is known as being one of South America’s greatest setters and was key to her country’s silver medal performance at the 1988 Olympics. She also helped the team to silver and bronze medals at the 1982 and 1986 FIVB World Championships.
Kent Steffes
The USA’s Kent Steffes is a massive figure in beach volleyball, widely regarded as one of the best in the male game. He was part of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games gold medal-winning team alongside Karch Kiraly and secured three FIVB gold medals.
Jürgen Wagner
German coach Jürgen Wagner has the honor of being the only coach to guide his country to Olympic gold in both the men’s and women’s beach volleyball tournaments, guiding Brink and Reckermann to glory in 2012 before repeating the feat four years later with Ludwig and Walkenhorst.
