BURNT HILLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Niskayuna girls volleyball programs made history on Thursday, playing in the first outdoor high school volleyball games in New York State history.

The court, put together on the Burnt Hills turf field, hosted matches for the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams of both programs. It was a packed house for this special event that took a lot of work to put together.

"Fantastic night for both teams," said Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake head coach Gary Bynon. "Just so happy, all the people, the families, my family, the coaches, everything they've done in the last few days to get this together. Just so special, so special for our kids. Our fans were great, and it was just a great night, and we wondered how it felt when the lights are on, well we played long enough to."

The game itself was a thriller. In a battle of reigning Section 2 champs, the Spartans were able to beat Nisky in a match that went the distance - five sets. The teams could not have asked for better weather, which just added to how special the night was.

"It was an amazing game," said Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Senior, Ava Goodemote. "We had some wind here and there and some sun in the beginning, but I think overall it was a pretty good moment, especially for women's sports in general and as a high school volleyball program for New York State, it was pretty incredible."
