Sports Briefs: Delaney, Huff pace MC volleyball in season debut

Carolina Delaney and Krystal Rose Huff both had double-digit kills to lift Marin Catholic to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 victory in its season opener against Carondelet on Tuesday night. Delaney paced MC (1-0) with 12 kills and Huff added 10. Chloe Allcroft had seven kills and two blocks while setter Rania Brodyhad 33 assists.

  • Makayla Sheffer had 15 kills and Natalie Stanford added 13 kills as Tam cruised to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 victory against Windsor on Tuesday night. Emmeline Sandgren added 28 assists and three aces for the Red-tailed Hawks (3-0), who also got nine digs from Jade Curtin-Savala.
  • Josie Campo had 14 kills and six digs as Terra Linda won its fourth match in a row, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 25-16 against Albany on Tuesday. The Trojans (4-0) also got six kills, three blocks, and two aces from Ryann Jefferys. Tess Hazlerig dished out 25 assists and libero Mia Patino had 41 digs. Sierra Treewater added eight kills and Kayli Chen had five kills, two aces, and two blocks.

Girls tennis

Branson’s doubles teams didn’t stop a game and the Bulls swept Novato, 7-0, Wednesday in an opening-week matchup. Branson’s Siena Yang, Simone Schachter, Olivia Shekou and Sadie Winter won Nos. 1 through 4 singles matches, respectively.

  • Redwood High scrapped for a tough 6-1 victory over San Marin on Wednesday. The Giants’ Gabriel Puentes and Ira Shostakovich earned solid wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, while teammate Scarlett Hackwell held on for a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles. Redwood swept doubles play, though the No. 2 and 3 matches were hard-fought decisions.

Girls golf

San Marin edged Marin Catholic in a tiebreaker after both teams tallied their cards and finished even at 204. The Wildcats’ Lexi Ferguson earned medalist honors with a 40 at Indian Valley Golf Club, while Sammy Low led the Mustangs at 41.

Women’s volleyball

College of Marin picked up its first win of the season with a sweep of Gavilan College. The Mariners beat Gavilan, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13, at Los Medanos College. Earlier in the day, Marin (1-3) lost to Lemoore, 3-1.

Prep field hockey

Archie Williams High dropped its season opener 3-0 to Berkeley on Tuesday. The Peregrine Falcons (0-1) are scheduled to play University on Wednesday.
