Weekend Watch: UT Volleyball, a kitty party and a fun run!

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Although it's still extremely hot outside, that means it's time to cool down with some indoor volleyball at UT. If you enjoy the heat, consider participating in a fun run or picking up your cat to attend a cat celebration. It's all here in your weekly Weekend Watch!

Weekend Forecast

The weekend brings a slight change, with the potential for tropical moisture to flow in from the Gulf on Saturday. We are bumping up rain chances to 40%. Mostly sunny skies for Sunday will still be around, so as always, stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat.

Sri Krishna at ISKCON

A very special event at the Hare Krishna Temple of Austin at ISKCON of Cedar Park. Located at 1003 Adventure Lane in Cedar Park, it's the Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2025 running from Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 17, in the afternoon through the evening hours. There will be plenty to do, including a Kids Costume Show, Cultural Performance, Arts and Crafts, Midnight Maha Aarti, Prasasam, and plenty of food vendors. Texas Volleyball

It's almost time to get out and enjoy some college sports, and this week, Texas Volleyball is holding one of its Exhibition Games! Taking place on Friday, August 15, the exhibition match is bringing in the Utes from the University of Utah at noon at the Gregory Gymnasium. This free game is first-come, first-served seating and will fill up, but they are encouraging everyone to come out and support the team. Watermelon Dash

It's a fun run, but with watermelons! It's the inaugural Watermelon Dash in Round Rock and will include a 5K, 10K, and a Kids and Family 1K. It will be at Dell Diamond on 3400 E Palm Valley Blvd and kick off at 7:30 a.m. with various awards for different divisions. Plus, there will be as much watermelon for you to enjoy as well! Austin Area Cards & More Expo

Pokemon? Check. Comics? Check. Sports memorabilia? Check, check, and check! This is Austin Cards & More Expo, and it's taking place Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17, at the Wyndham Round Rock Hotel and Conference Center. Located at 1209 N I-35, the two-day event is everything nerdy with 150 tables of new and classic cards, figures, pops, and more. Admission is only $5, and kids 12 and under get in for free. Pop Cat Austin

The cat vs. dog debate has been put to rest as Austin celebrates cats! POP Cats Austin 2025 is a dedicated event to all things cats. Taking place at the Palmer Events Center on 900 Barton Springs Road, the event runs Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16 and 17. From Cat Cosplay, to Cat Marketplace, to a Cat Art Exhibit, and Catnannigans Cinema, there is a ton to do here. Local rescues have adoptable cats in different Catios, or bring your cat to have fun!
