Texas sweeps Southern Cal, advances to 19th consecutive volleyball Sweet 16

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas volleyball team is again headed to the NCAA regional semifinals.

The Longhorns swept Southern California in the second round of the NCAA tournament Friday at Gregory Gym, making it volleyball's version of the Sweet 16 for the 19th consecutive season. That's the longest active streak in the country.

Set scores were 26-24, 25-20, 25-22.

Madisen Skinner poured in a match-high 24 kills with just six errors in 49 attempts for a .347 hitting percentage. She also played tremendous defense with 12 digs. Jenna Wenaas notched 13 kills without committing an error in 21 tries and Reagan Rutherford had seven kills.

Averi Carlson had 40 set assists and libero Emma Halter had 12 digs.

Texas held the Trojans to a .160 hitting percentage while hitting .316 with 51 kills and 15 attack errors.

Texas, seeded third in the Penn State quadrant, will play No. 2 Creighton in the next round but top-seeded Penn State and No. 8 North Carolina play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. If Penn State wins, they'll host the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 matches.
