[Women's Volleyball] Bees come up short in CCAC match at Cardinal Stritch

St. Ambrose fell to 4-4 in conference play with a 25-18, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22 loss at Cardinal Stritch Saturday afternoon.

After winning the second set to force a 1-1 tie, the Bees rallied to take a 22-20 lead on a Meredith Umland kill late in the third. Umland then paired with Payton Wendt on a block and Meredith Siebers added a kill to give SAU a pair of set points at 24-22.

The Wolves (9-4, 6-2 CCAC) erased them both before a Rachael Dion kill gave the Bees another chance at 25-24. But again SAU came up empty. Cardinal Stritch capitalized with back-to-back kills. That was followed by a block to give CSU a 2-1 lead.

St. Ambrose led as late as 17-16 in the fourth set. The Wolves went on a four-point run to grab a lead they would not relinquish. A Siebers kill capped an SAU 3-0 run that cut the gap to 22-21, and a point later, Wendt had a kill to trim the deficit to 23-22. That would prove to be the Bees' final point as the Wolves closed things out.

Jill Kavalauskas led SAU with 16 kills. Siebers finished with 12. Dion had eight kills, Umland finished with six and Wendt added five in the loss.

Amber Tomlin posted a team-high 37 assists to go along with 12 digs. Maicee Pierce was credited with 17 digs.

The Bees will return home to host Saint Xavier Tuesday night.
