[Women's Volleyball] St. Ambrose falls in five sets at Lincoln

0 9

Despite 19 kills from Meredith Siebers, St. Ambrose lost a five-set match at Lincoln College Thursday night.

The 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10 loss was the Bees' third in a row and dropped the team to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the CCAC.

SAU took two of the first three sets and was tied with Lincoln (8-6, 2-2 CCAC) at 15-15 on a Riley Epperson kill in the fourth. But back-to-back Lynx points gave them enough momentum to carry the lead throughout the rest of the set. A block from Siebers and Payton Wendt pulled the Bees to within 22-19, and two points later, a Siebers kill put the deficit at 23-20, but that would be as close as St. Ambrose would get.

Two straight Lincoln hitting errors handed SAU a 2-0 lead to open the fifth. The lead remained two as late as 7-5 following another Lynx error. But the Bees were able to win just one of the next nine points as Lincoln jumped in front 13-8. Kills from Rachael Dion and Jessica Hemm down the stretch weren't enough to erase the deficit.

Epperson and Hemm joined Siebers with double-digit kills, finishing with 12 and 10, respectively. Wendt and Dion each put down six kills.

Amber Tomlin led all players with 51 assists. She also picked up 17 digs.

Maicee Pierce paced the Bees with 36 digs. Siebers (18) and Epperson (12) also reached double figures in digs. Alexis Hayes was credited with eight digs in the loss.

St. Ambrose will return home to host Governors State Monday.
