Volleyball Introduction and some Drills for Beginners

0 11

Volleyball is one of the most popular, widely played sports in the world. However it’s not a very easy sport to play. It takes a lot of practice, determination and technique. Those who really love the sport and want to be good at it need to work hard to reach the skill level that they desire. There’s plenty of training drills you can do that can help you with technique correction and developing a decent understanding and control of the sport.

A game of volleyball usually involves two six-player teams playing in a rectangular pitch, where each team is separated by a net, crossing the center of the field from side to side. Volleyball, like many sports, is all about teamwork. The game is played by passing the ball from one side of the net to the other, from team to team, while each team attempts to score by landing the ball on the opposing team’s side of the ground, within the lines marking the playing area. However, what makes the sport challenging is that the ball can only be “bounced off” your hands and cannot be caught.

Volleyball is a popularly played sport in all the countries in the world, by people of all ages, from children to adults, as a career, as a hobby, or even as an occasional activity. Volleyball was even hosted for numerous years in the Olympics, which gave the sport an even bigger boost within the world’s population. Since it’s become so popular all around the world, the sport of volleyball has even dipped its toes in the sports betting sector. One can learn more about the odds of volleyball betting on many websites like snabbareodds.com and many more.

There’s a never ending list of drills one can go through to improve their volleyball skills, but here’s a couple of exercises that can really be crucial for a beginner volleyball player.

One-Man Passing

This may sound boring, or useless, but it’s actually really helpful to improve your stamina, technique, agility and more. All you need for this drill is a ball and some space. You need to go into the passing position and pass the ball up into the air, and keep passing it back as it comes down, without letting it hit the ground. You might think it’s simple but it’ll definitely prove you wrong if you do. Just give it a try!

Setting Vertically

When it comes to set control, I can’t think of a better solo drill you can do, than vertical sets, or setting to yourself. This can be done in numerous ways, even while laying down. You should really give it a go. Lay down on your back with your knees bent, keep your hands around 7 inches over your face, grab the ball in the position to set, forming  a triangular shape with your thumb and forefingers. Keep throwing the ball up and try to keep it as steady as possible to not need to move. If you manage to set the ball over 50 times without moving, you have mastered this drill.
