Pavan and Humana-Paredes claim World Beach Volleyball Championship
Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes are beach volleyball World Champions.
The duo won gold after beating Americans April Ross and Alix Klineman at the FIVB World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. Not only did they secure a title for themselves, but they have secured Team Canada’s spot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Pavan and Humana-Paredes won the championship in identical sets of 23-21. This is Canada’s first-ever medal in the tournament.

The pairing previously held the Canadian record for the best result at the World Championships, finishing in fourth place in 2017.
While Pavan and Humana-Paredes have likely booked their ticket to the Summer Games in the process, they will have to compete against other Canadian women’s duos in beach volleyball to officially secure their own spot.
