[Men's Volleyball] Bees bounce back with 3-0 win over Viterbo

0 11

Two days after a surprising four-set loss at Robert Morris, the No. 8-ranked Bees got back on track with a 3-0 home win over Viterbo Thursday night.

Ten different Bees each had at least one kill in the 25-16, 25-17, 25-21 win that moved the team to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

St. Ambrose did get off to a bit of a sluggish start, falling behind 4-1 in the opening set. The Bees responded with three straight points but didn't pull away until late. Leading 16-15, SAU used a pair of aces from Zach Schmidt, another from Avery Clark, and kills from Jaylen Clark, Scott MacGillis and Levi Vermeulen to win nine of the final 10 points of the set. Jaylen Clark closed the first set with back-to-back blocks.

SAU got off to faster starts in the final two sets.

Schmidt had three early kills to help St. Ambrose to a 12-4 lead in the second and Vermeulen picked up two to help the Bees to a 12-5 lead in the third. SAU was never seriously threatened in either set after that.

Schmidt finished with a team-high seven kills. MacGillis recorded six and Jaylen Clark and Logan Havens each had five. Vermeulen (4), Matt Drab (2), Jake Snyder, Avery Clark, Robby Hoffman and Tim Owens also had kills.

Snyder was credited with 14 assists and Adam Campbell had 12. Danny Woulfe picked up seven digs.

The Bees will next host Judson Monday at 7 p.m.
