[Men's Volleyball] St. Ambrose drops CCAC match at Robert Morris
Despite a late third-set rally, St. Ambrose fell below .500 with a four-set loss at Robert Morris Tuesday night. The 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22 loss dropped the Bees to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the CCAC.
After losing three of the final four points in the first set, SAU trailed throughout the second in falling behind 2-0.
Things didn't start any better in the third as the Bees trailed 17-8. But then St. Ambrose finally came alive.
Danny Woulfe had a kill and an ace as part of a 5-0 run to close the gap to 17-13. The Bees kept chipping away and a Zach Schmidt kill tied the set at 22-22. After the teams traded errors, Levi Vermeulen and Jaylen Clark paired for a block to give SAU a 24-23 lead. A Robert Morris hitting error handed St. Ambrose the set.
Two kills from Vermeulen and another from Avery Clark helped the Bees to a 5-2 lead in the fourth. Another Avery Clark kill gave SAU a four-point edge at 13-9, but that was followed by a seven-point Eagle run and St. Ambrose would never lead again.
Vermeulen paced the team with 11 kills. Schmidt and Scott MacGillis each added six. Adam Campbell had a team-high 18 assists and Jake Snyder finished with 13. Woulfe recorded 12 digs.
The Bees next return home to host Viterbo in a CCAC match Thursday at 7 p.m.
