KNIGHTS WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW

LAURINBURG, NC – The St. Andrews University women's volleyball team has followed a three game road losing streak with a season long three game winning streak this past week. In the span of four days, the Knights defeated Breanau University on the road last Wednesday and then returned home to defeat Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday night and Bryan College on Saturday morning.  The 3-1 victory over the Lions of Bryan College was their third straight win.   The individual game scores were 25-18, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-14.  All three wins were Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) wins, and the Saturday morning victory helped the women's team improve to 9-10 / 6-5.  In addition to the winning conference record, the Knights are a strong 5-1 on their home court.

Following her team's third straight win, head coach Holly Mandeville said, "Overall I felt like in these last two games, we really came together and played like a team.  This helped us get back on track and prepare for a hard week ahead."  This coming week the Knights will play games on four consecutive days.

In this winning streak, the Knights have had some additional players step up to make the team stronger.  Again, freshman Kandon Luquer (FR/Laurinburg, NC ) joined sophomore Karina Lozada (SO/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) with double figure defensive digs with 13 and 24, respectively.  Junior Shalia Powell (JR/Dayton, NV) was her usual self in assisting her teammates with 31 assists.  Freshman Kaylah Sloop (FR/Mount Pleasant, NC) was also her usual self in being credited with 17 kills.  Junior Kellie Price (JR/Oxford, NC) was one who stepped up strong with 12 kills and three service aces.  Three of the players already mentioned had hitting percentages that will put a baseball player in the hall of fame.  They are Kaylah Sloop (.317), Karina Lozada (.333) and Kellie Price (.500).

After a road game at Columbia College this coming Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the Knights return home to host conference games on Wednesday (Bluefield College, 6:00 p.m.), Thursday (Allen University, 7:00 p.m.) and Friday (Point University, 6:30 p.m.).  Come out and help the team keep its winning streak alive!
