[Men's Volleyball] Men's Volleyball Sweeps Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, Va. - The St. Andrews University men's volleyball team swept (25-18, 25-16, 25-20) conference foe Bluefield College (VA) in three sets on the road Tuesday evening.

SAU 3, BLUEFIELD 0

St. Andrews played a very good first set putting down 18 kills to hit .433 ousting the Rams 25-18 while Bluefield had 9 kills.

SAU then had 16 kills while hitting .393 in the second set as they got out to an 8-2 lead to put away Bluefield 25-16 on just 7 kills. The Knights then played numerous players in the final set and after getting out to a 20-13 lead, held off a late rally for a 25-20 win on 13 kills while Bluefield had just eight.

SAU doubled up the Rams on kills 47-23 while hitting .326. SAU also had more digs 31-24 and more blocks as well.

Freshman outside hitter Diego Hernandez (FR/San Juan, Puerto Rico) paced the Knights with 14 kills while hitting .480 with six digs, three aces, and a block while Sophomore setter Jackson Stark (SO/St. Louis, MO) had 35 assists, with 4 digs, and 2 kills.

Senior OH Robin Imar (SR/St. Medard, France) also recorded 6 kills while hitting .364 along with 3 digs and an ace while sophomore middle blocker Nate Blackwell (SO/Menifee, CA) added six kills and two blocks while hitting .625.

Freshman right side Daryn Friedman (FR/Pembroke Pines, FL) also added 6 kills while hitting .500 with a block while sophomore middle Edgar Huerta (SO/Salinas, CA) played well too adding 7 kills with 3 blocks while hitting .385.

Junior libero Carlos Rodriguez (JR/West Hazelton, PA) and sophomore libero Jacob DeSouza (SO/Quail Valley, CA) combined for 16 digs while DeSouza had three kills and Rodrgiuez adding an assist. Middles Sean Hale (SR/Angels Camp, CA) and Jorge Gonzalez (FR/Miami, FL) also combined for 3 kills, a dig and a block while sophomore setter Kurt Laurido (SO/Miami, FL) and freshman setter Alejandro Escobar (FR/Miami, FL) combined for five assists.

SAU improves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference while Bluefield falls to 3-6 and 2-5 in the conference.

St. Andrews will now return home for their home-opening game on Saturday morning when they host conference foe Campbellsville University (5-6) at 11:00 AM.
