[Men's Volleyball] No. 1 Vikings Sail Past No. 3 Pirates 3-1
Des Moines, IA -- Grand View men's volleyball hosts their annual two-day Molten Invitational this Thursday and Friday. The No. 1 Grand View Vikings defeated the No. 3 Park Pirates in tonight's contest 3-1, moving at a 3-1 record on the season.
The Vikings started out slow falling to the Pirates in the first set, but then dominated the next three to win the match. The last time these two teams competed against each other was in the 2017 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Championship where the Vikings lost to the Pirates.
Set One: Grand View University 24 | Park University 26
The Vikings battled back from a 20-24 deficit to tie the game, but the Pirates were able to hold the Vikings off to a 26-24 win. Grand View recorded 13 team kills with a .524 hitting percentage while Park recorded 16 team kills with a .500 hitting percentage.
Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Park University 14
Grand View ran away with a 9-4 lead and never looked back winning the set 24-14 on an from John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL). The Vikings finished with a .529 hitting percentage while the Pirates recorded a .120 hitting percentage.
Set Three: Grand View University 25 | Park University 13
The Vikings carried the energy into the third set to take a 24-13 lead before Tim Johnson finished the game with a kill. Grand View was strong at the net with 8 team blocks and 10 kills.
Set Four: Grand View University 25 | Park University 19
Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) started the set serving Grand View's first five unanswered points. The Pirates were unable to catch up as the Vikings ended the match with a 25-19 victory. Grand View collected 14 kills with a .379 hitting percentage while the Pirates only collected 11 kills and a .108 hitting percentage.

The Vikings offense was on fire with Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba), John Chamone, and Tim Johnson each having 14, 13, and 12 kills respectively. The Defense was led by Brandon Anderson (JR/Davis Junction, IL) with seven digs for the night and the team finished with 16 blocks.
