Chicago, Illinois – NAIA No. 2 Grand View men's volleyball fell to NCAA No. 8 Loyola University (IL) 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 18-25) Friday evening. The Vikings move to a 1-1 record on the season. 

The Vikings put up a fight in Chicago recording 29 team kills and 17 team digs in their second game of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Ramblers who were competing in their fifth game of the season.

Set One: Grand View 16 | Loyola University 25

The Vikings and the Ramblers competed in a tight first set until the Ramblers broke the 16-all tie and ran away to win the first set.  Grand View had 8 kills as a team for a .235 hitting percentage.

Set Two: Grand View 21 | Loyola University 25

Grand View held the lead 19-17 late in the second set, but Loyola scored six unanswered points to capture the lead and eventually end the set 25-21. The Vikings recorded a total of 11 kills while the Ramblers recorded 12 kills.

Set Three: Grand View 18 | Loyola University 25

The Vikings fell to a 10-4 deficit early in the set and were unable to come back. Grand View recorded 10 kills, but Loyola came out on top with 14 kills.

Players of Notice…

Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) led the Viking offense with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Tim Johnson contributed seven kills. Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) recorded 15 assists in the match. The Viking defense was led by Raphael Seabra (JR/Curitiba, Brazil) with five digs on the night.

Up Next…

The Vikings will travel to Canton, Missouri to take on Heart Conference opponent (RV) Culver-Stockton College on Tuesday, January 23rd. The match is set to start at 7 pm.
