[Volleyball] Cavs Sweep Bacone to Close Regular Season
MUSKOGEE, Okla.- On Friday evening, the Cavaliers (17-12, 7-9 SAC) swept Bacone College (8-19, 2-14 SAC) to close out the regular season, and head into the SAC Playoffs on a high note. The first two sets of the match were pretty close as the Cavs won 25-20, and 26-24, but then SGU put the Warriors away for good in the third set with a 25-11 win.
Khyra Echols (FR/Plano, Texas), Krystal Lopez (SR/El Paso, Texas), and Courtney Murphy (SR/Tulsa, Okla.) led the Cavaliers offensive attack with 9 kills a piece. All three of the Cavs top hitters were efficient as well, as Echols hit for a .227 clip, Murphy hit .381, and Lopez hit for a match-high percentage of .400. Murphy and BreAnna Smoak (JR/Iowa Park, Texas) built a wall at the net as they each finished with three solo blocks and one block assist a piece. Sunny Clark (JR/Dublin, Texas) led St. Gregory's in assists with 23, and she also picked up 8 digs on defense. Sarah Ahrens (JR/Wichita Falls, Texas) finished the match with 10 assists, and Kayley Davis (SO/Irving, Texas) collected 5 assists to go with her 13 digs. Gabby Ware (JR/San Antonio, Texas) put away 5 kills, and recorded a team-high in digs, with 16. Natasha Rodriguez (SR/Pecos, Texas) played well on defense with 11 digs to add to the teams total.
St. Gregory's will open up post-season play at Oklahoma City University on Nov. 7, when the Cavs will likely face SAGU in the first round of play.
