[Volleyball] Cavs Split on Day Two of OKWU Invitational

BARTLESVILLE- The Cavaliers (5-3) played two matches on Saturday at the OKWU Invitational, and they lost the first match, but won their second.

In game one, St. Gregory's fell to Sterling College (2-2) in four sets. The lost the first set 17-25, but then won the second set 25-23. The Warriors would go on to win the final two sets to win the match, and hand the Cavs their first loss of the tournament. Offensively, St. Gregory's was led by Gabby Ware (JR/San Antonio, Texas) and Courtney Murphy (SR/Tulsa, Okla.)'s nine kills a piece. Khyra Echols (FR/Plano, Texas) had a solid performance by recording eight kills, and had a .412 attack percentage. Sarah Ahrens (JR/Wichita Falls, Texas) led the Cavs in assists with 16, and Sunny Clark (JR/Dublin, Texas) added 15 assists as well. Kayley Davis (SO/Irving, Texas) recorded a game-high in digs, with 19, and Natasha Rodriguez (SR/Pecos, Texas) had 14 digs on defense.

In the Cavs second match of the day, they came out firing against Langston University (0-3). SGU won the match in three sets, and were in full control the entire way. The Cavs won the first set 25-10, and would go on to win the next two, 25-16 and 25-23. As a team, SGU hit for a .284 attack percentage, and only make 10 attack errors on 88 attempts. Offensively the Cavs were led by Gabby Ware's nine kills. Sunny Clark led the team with 15 assists and eight digs, and she was followed by Sarah Ahrens' nine assists. Courtney Murphy and BreAnna Smoak (JR/Iowa Park, Texas) each recorded a game-high with two blocks.

SGU will look to stay hot as they face Langston University again on Tuesday August 29, when they play in their home opener at 7 PM.
