Deal Tri 5 mile handicap – changes

This very popular event, always early December every year, is a great chance to dig out your Christmas themed, running friendly gear! There’s always a good atmosphere for this one, with elves running around the lanes of Northbourne and surroundings.

There are a couple of small changes to the 2025 event:

• The start/finish line will move to the road – specifically, the tree closest to the fire exit! The timing equipment will move under the trees, and runners waiting to go off can wait inside or on the grass verge.
• the route – I’ve made a small tweak to get the distance to 5 miles (rather than 4.87ish). Once you’ve started, you will use the original route until you get to the left turn for the Straight Mile – on the FIRST LAP, you will go past it, and turn left on to Northbourne Lane at the Ham Crossroads (effectively round the other side of the triangle). At the end you will cross over the Straight Mile, and carry on along the original route. On the SECOND LAP, you will turn left into the Straight Mile, as per previous years. • Lastly – as the course has now been remeasured (on foot, and by car odometer) to be 5 miles, we will accept this event as one of your 3 qualifying events for the Baked Bean League! This means that there are 2 free to enter, qualifying events (this one and a non-Pegwell Bay parkrun). Thanks to Dave Adam for suggesting this addition.
