Running roundup 21/04/2025
Here’s the latest weekly summary of Deal Tri’s running section, for Easter weekend.
Parkruns first – an exceptional turnout for Walmer and Deal Seafront (WaDS) parkrun, where a new attendance record was set, almost 100 more runners than they had previously hosted, with nearly 500 participants! Deal Tri’s Toby Smith came in second, close behind Charlie Brisley, a former Club member who is really making his mark in British Athletics. 37 other Dealies took part at WaDS, with 2 at Dover Waterfront, Simon Cox and Kingsman Tse, a junior runner who set a new personal best parkrun time – congratulations! One member took part in Folkestone, and 2 at Pegwell Bay.
Over to Folkestone for the 10 miler on Good Friday. Twenty members completed the course in the scorching sun, some of whom completed the Lake Garda marathon less than a week before! The team’s results were littered with personal best times, with Holly Rye completing her first 10 mile event and therefore earning the right to ring the PB bell.
Sunday morning dawned and brought with one of our 3S series of runs – the 3rd Sunday of the month social run, out of Northbourne Parish Hall. These are open to non-members too, who can run 3.5 miles or more in an hour, and we offer 3 routes, distances and terrains, so there’s something for everyone – including tea and cake at the end. The social runs are exactly that, a chance to share fresh air, chat and tea with people that you maybe wouldn’t meet anywhere else.
We are planning another Couch to 5k over the summer, dates to follow, after the success and popularity of the one that’s just finished. It will be another 9 week course that will take non-runners or returning runners up to or running 5k. It’s built for 3 sessions a week, so that’s one with us on a Monday evening, one under your own steam on Weds/Thurs, and the third one on Saturday morning at WaDS parkrun (you don’t have to do the whole course if you don’t want to). If you can’t make any of them, we will send the details to you so you can still complete it. We’ve had some great feedback from our recent graduates and we’d love to carry it on with another group. Let’s get Deal running!
If you’d like to know more about Deal Tri, drop us a message. Sue Bolton, Run Captain, and Bronwen Lafferty, Club Captain, can often be found at Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun, along with other Club members, so there’s a friendly face to answer any questions about running, swimming or cycling – if they don’t know, they find the person who does!
