Run roundup 10/05/2025 – that day when Deal Tri took over Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun

0 4

It’s parkrun day!

Here’s Deal Tri’s summary.

We will start with Margate today, where Mark Baker finished in 13th place overall, 2nd in his age group and bagged a parkrun personal best time too!

Three runners finished the Dover Waterfront course, each one in under 30 minutes.

Our home parkrun at Walmer and Deal Seafront is the last to be mentioned today. Deal Tri took it over (so all volunteer positions were covered by over 60 Deal Tri members).

Runners were in invited to wear red, white and blue to mark VE Day and plenty answered the call. They were encouraged along the course by pompoms, cow bells, clapping and car horns – some probably went quicker to get away from it!

Deal Tri members put the new club gazebo to good use, using it to host a cake and cuppa sale to raise funds for Walmer RNLI Station – a total of £594 was donated. In appreciation, local Lifeboat crew completed the 5k course in their drysuits – a challenge on such a warm day! 8

Our pacers led runners out to target each minute between 21 and 35, and an amazing 56 getting a new best time (15% of runners!).

Thank you to the regular crew at Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun for letting us look after the shop for the morning.

Please enjoy our photos (taken by Larry ‘The Lens’ Smith and others) and get in contact if you’d like to know more about what we do
