Results round up – June 28th/29th

What a difference a week makes!  The weather this weekend was more like what we expect in June, and it made for some fantastic racing.

• IM Frankfurt – with the heat wave crossing Europe, temperatures were in the high 30’s leading to a non wetsuit swim. Huge congratulations to Diego Maloney (13:20:28) and Eimear Laffan (13:27:42)

 

• Sheephaven Half (NC Middle Distance) – unusually we had no one at National Championships!

 

• Blessington Sprint – Well done to JP Burke

 

• Hell of the West – What a day – well done everyone

Huge well done to the organising committee in particular Mark Kennedy and Kristi Hogan.

It was a fantastic day for the club and hard to summarise. We were delighted to see our rookies finish, and also to have some more mature (!) finishers – Noel Guinane was on his 34th finish ( of the 35 events), Eugene Keane at 68 years young battled him for the line.  Greg Baxter was back from Mexico city, Harry Leahy from Germany and Derek Tobin returned to racing. Ahmed Motewa took part in  a relay, in his first open water swim outside of Eygpt.

In the Women’s race, our first home for LTC was Hilkka Kontro, who ran her way into 3rd, overtaking Murna Griffin O’Malley in the final 1500M. It’s Hilkka’s 1st season in triathlon, and this was her first Olympic distance. Shóna Keane also ran her way up the field coming home 6th, with another rookie Catríona Farrell in 10th and Angela Robertson in 15th. Claire O’Flynn and Niamh Yelverton picked up AG prizes

On the Men’s, side first out of the water with the fastest swim of the day was Ross Higgins (21:15) he finished the race in 8th. Ronan Costelloe was the first off the bike with the fastest bike split of the day (1:07:52) finishing 4th. But once out of the water Colm Turner made up 13 places on the bike, and with a run spilt of 34:25 ran his way to win, in a time of 2:09:22. Colm previously won the race in 2010 and was delighted to win again ( sweeter that Hilkka had podiumed too!) Brilliant performances from Eoin Jackson 7th, Bryan Nolan 9th, Stephen Cuneen 15th & Noel Keane 16th, all finishing under 2:30.

There were AG prizes for Evan O’Sullivan Glynn, Nigel Mann,  Liam Liddy, John O’Sullivan, Ed Fahy & Bernard Loughlin.
