Murray caps World Triathlon season with podium finish
JOHANNESBURG – Richard Murray rounded off a successful season winning the bronze medal at the final race of the World Triathlon Series (WTS) at the Gold Coast in Australia yesterday.
The South African brushed off his disappointment from the Commonwealth Games to achieve impressive feats in the swim-cycle-run event.
“The first World Series Olympic distance win this year, I proposed to my girlfriend (Dutch triathlete, Rachel Klamer) and she said yes,” Murray told tie ITU website. “That is awesome and finishing the season on the podium I couldn’t be happier.”

Murray was fourth on the overall WTS rankings with Commonwealth Games champion Henri Schoeman finishing seventh after missing out on the podium yesterday.

“I wanted third overall in the year, that was my goal at the start of the season and I was short 40 or 50 points, so it’s a bit of a bittersweet ending,” Murray said. “But overall, after the way I came out of the water, I am pretty happy with third.”
Spaniard Mario Mola won the series title for the third consecutive year after finishing the Gold Coast race in second place behind French winner Vincent Luis.
