2017 Leamington Triathlon + Canaqua OWS

0
Leamington will forever be a place I return to. I lived there for a while and love visiting when the occasion arises. This time it was for their annual Triathlon.

This was a whole family event kind of weekend. On Saturday my 3 children (6, 10, &13) and also my sister's 3 children did the kids triathlon. I am a big fan of kids doing these types of things for various reasons. It is one thing to be decent at one leg of a triathlon but a whole different beast when there are three different sports balled into one competition. Waking up the beast within at an early age will have life long benefits. I think.

One of the things we learned from this year's event is that none of my children are natural runners. Thankfully their mother is.

She participated in the 5km run on Sunday.

As for me....

I did my first open water swim (period) of the year. This was under the Canaqua banner and wasn't quite as well attended as I would have hoped. It was a slow 3km but it felt alright. The water - Lake Erie - was a very manageable 69°F (20ish C) and other than seeing a swimming snake after the fact was pretty good.

After the glorious event I made the journey with my wife and eldest son to Point Pelee. I had never been and we had the "free entry into all National parks" thingy with us. What was fascinating was being right at the point where two different currents in the water met and were in conflict.

Lots of fun.... too much sun.... and I didn't have to run. Yep - GREAT weekend!

Until I touch the wall.....
