Griffith is new Director on BOA board

The Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) has a new director. Long-standing track and field administrator Esther Maynard has been replaced on the board by Shelley-Ann Griffith.

Griffith, who has been involved in sports administration at various levels of schools, clubs and associations for cricket, taekwondo, football, chess and weightlifting, was one of three directors elected at the BOA’S annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Wednesday night.

In a four-way contest, Griffith, who was proposed by the Barbados Amateur Weightlifting Association and seconded by the Barbados Judo Association, received 24 votes with Dr Adrian Lorde getting 25, Mona Alleyne 23 and Maynard 17.

Lorde and Alleyne, like Maynard, served on the previous board.

Maynard served on the BOA board for 37 years and also held the positions of assistant secretary and treasurer. She is a former president of the Athletics Association of Barbados and holds the position of public relations officer.

BOA President Sandra Osborne and assistant Secretary-General Cammie Burke were re-elected to their positions unopposed. (HG)
