Special taekwondo training begins

Lalitpur, April 1

The five-day special taekwondo training, organised by Nepal Taekwondo Association under the auspices of UK Sports, began here at the Taekwondo Academy on Monday.

A total of 50 participants from seven provinces, three departmental teams and para-taekwondo are taking part in the training which is being conducted by coaches and athletes from United Kingdom.

Earlier, President of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha inaugurated the training. UK Sports President and five-time Olympic medallist Dame Katherine Grainger was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, British Embassy in Kathmandu organised a reception in honour of the members of the Great Britain team led by Grainger.

The event involved a demonstration from the Nepal Taekwondo Association with whom UK Sport has a partnership.

British Ambassador Richard C Morris and Grainger also took part in a wheelchair basketball game with para-taekwondo players of Nepal.

“It is an honour to host the first British woman to win medals at five successive Olympic Games, Dame Katherine Grainger, at an event to celebrate sport and inclusion,” said Ambassador Morris. “Sport is a fantastic way for young people to learn about respecting others, embracing diversity and the power of commitment,” he added.

The Nepal Taekwondo Association had organised a felicitation programme for the UK Sports officials and athletes on Sunday.
