Swim Ireland is the National Governing Body (NGB) for Swimming, Water Polo, Diving and associated Aquatic Disciplines on the island of Ireland. Swim Ireland’s Head Office is based at Irish Sport HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 with circa 60 employees. Swim Ireland’s remit as a Governing Body is to increase participation, run the competitive aspect of our sport and to provide a framework for regulation. We are currently recruiting for a newly created role of Competition and Events Officer to join our dynamic team.
This is an exciting time as we are currently going through a reinvigoration of the Competition and Events Department who lead in the delivery of all National Competitions, Open Water Events and General Events across the organisation. The Competition and Events Team are committed to enhancing the lives of our members by providing high class professional events and competition across the many levels of our organisation. These can be anything from our fast-paced National Championships across all our disciplines (Swimming, Water Polo, Diving, Masters and Open Water), International Swimming/Water Polo Championships and the exciting Swim Ireland Awards night.

Role and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Competition Manager and working closely with the Open Water Event Manager, the Competition and Events Officer will support the department in the delivery of National Competitions, Open Water and General Events across the organisation. This role is a combination of hands-on competition/events delivery, mixed with the behind-the-scenes administration work. The role holder will be working with a committed and dedicated team to improve competition and events services and provide high level professional support.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Support the delivery (before, during and after) of relevant national competitions (swimming, open water, water polo and diving)
- Work at relevant competitions/events as required
- Support the setup and take down at competition/events
- A wide range of administrative duties in the lead up to, during and after competitions and events
- Develop resources, handbooks to support clubs and members
- Ensure Swim Ireland website is up to date with club resources and club support information.
- Manage the administration (entry and sign up) process for open water events and the accreditation process for competitions
- Liaise with clubs and members in relation to competition and event queries
- Receive and process entries for competitions
- Prepare and review competition entry files (E.g. Hytek) for all competitions
- Support the completion of a yearly competition/event review process
- Support booking of venues, accommodation and ancillary services as required
- Prepare social media posts for circulation
- Be responsible for the administration and record keeping of stock
Please note: Some of the key responsibilities listed above are seasonal by nature and will not be required all year around, however the post holder will be required to work numerous weekends throughout the year. Priorities will be agreed with the Line Manger. The role by its nature will evolve and the postholder may be required to undertake duties not specifically outlined in this Job Description.
Person Specification:
Education & Experience
- Experience in event and operational delivery
- Experience working in a sporting environment as a volunteer or professional.
- I.T proficient with good understanding of all Microsoft packages (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
- Experience in administration and developing processes
- Knowledge of aquatics and competition structure within Ireland
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Strong relationship skills and the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Have an understanding of Swim Ireland, its strategy and key development areas
- Knowledge of Hy-tek software (Desirable)
- Relevant degree desirable (E.g. Sports Management and/or Event Management)

- Strong communication skills and administration skills.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, to include excellent attention to detail.
- Energetic and enthusiastic to deliver aquatic competition and events to target groups.
- A self-starter that can journey plan and time manage effectively.
- Has the ability to work independently, and also as part of a team and follow direction.
- Can adapt to frequent changes in workload and has the ability to prioritise work accordingly.
- Proven ability to deliver sporting events / events
Remuneration and Location
- The package will include a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience to commence at circa €33,000 per annum.
- Position Tenure: 3 year fixed-term full-time contract.
- Position Location: Swim Ireland Head Office, Irish Sport HQ, Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Some level of hybrid working is permitted dependant on the requirements of the business. Some travel within Ireland will be required.
Essential Requirements
- Be eligible to work in Ireland on a full-time basis.
- Some evening and weekend work is expected, availability for flexible working hours is required.
- Full, clean driving license and access to vehicle.
