Gold: Mayya Gurbanberdieva, Aleksandr Maltsev (RUS) 91.7963 – “It’s always a pleasure to compete here, in Hungary, Budapest. They are organising events really well. But now the underwater speakers were not working, but we tried to synchronise the performance. We won the first gold medal of the whole championships, so we are happy about that.”

Silver: Emma Garcia, Pau Ribes (ESP) 84.8694 – “Two weeks ago we participated in a world series in Kazan, it was our first international competition since 2019, but this is a European Championships so it is different for us. We are very happy with the medal and the result despite problems with the underwater speakers. This choreography is almost new, we started to prepare it in 2019, after Gwangju, but we didn’t have a lot of occasions to show it. So, for the moment we are happy, and this is a good way to start this competition.”

Bronze: Isotta Sportelli, Nicolo Ogliari (ITA) 77.4281 – “We have been training together for 10 days only. We were working really hard and intensively day and night, weekends included. We were catapulted suddenly onto the big scene so we weren’t expecting this. We tried to get rid of anxiety the best way we knew how. The choreography is new. It is based on an old routine of (Giorgio) Minisini and (Manila) Flamini but it was modified for us with some new elements in order to suit us. We are happy and thrilled. We were a bit worried jumping into the pool because they warned us of the technical problems with underwater speakers but it was OK.”
