Current Situation
To be honest, we have been struggling to continue to build custom boards. With current business and marketing costs around $500 a board and build costs more than $800 a board at times, theres not much left for the 20 hours of my time that is involved in the designing, building and selling of every one of my boards. Which is really frustrating as I've never been more passionate about my boards, especially as the level of performance that I'm now getting out of them often surprises even my high expectations. So with this in mind, we are implementing 3 major changes in how we build and sell my boards. Read on to learn about them.
Lower Priced Stock Boards
I have designed a range of stock sizes for each of our models and we are teaming up with Matty Hurworth in Tweed Heads to offer these as a series of lower priced, no frills, high quality boards. At the top of each model page, you'll see an order form where you can order a beautifully handcrafted version of my boards starting from $1050, with a couple of basic glassing and colour options. These are a great option if you need a board in a hurry as we can build these and have them ready for you in just 14 days.
Next Level Boards
However, if you're looking for something more special, we have now teamed up with Rhino Laminating in Brookvale to produce our next level, top shelf boards. Rhino is one of Australia's premium laminators who specialises in resin tints, pinstripes and gloss and polish boards. The quality here is through the roof and as good as you will get anywhere in the world. You will see the order form for a 'next level' Rhino board at the bottom of each model page. Turnaround for a Rhino built board is 4 - 6 weeks and prices start at $1250 for "stock size' board.
Custom Boards Pricing
Taking orders for and building custom boards is a massively time consuming operation. There's a hell of a lot of details to collect, record and then pass on to the build shops. Usually customs require custom glue-ups and special blanks, and extra time dialling in the shape to ensure everything is perfect. And so, the price for fully custom boards from us is going to go up quite substantially. The first price rise will be an increase of $250 for fully custom boards starting next month, followed by a further increase 1st of January 2020. So, good news is that you can still get a custom board before the first price rise, if get your order in before 1st of November. October custom production is pretty much booked out but we still have slots for November and December builds. The second bit of good news is that when we do implement the 2020 custom prices, the value of your current custom boards is going to increase quite substantially So, that's it for now. We have a few other things happening, but we'll save that for future newsletters.
