UFC 318 bonuses: Brendan Allen, Marvin Vettori win Fight of the Night on action-packed card
Brendan Allen and Marvin Vettori stole the show on a UFC 318 card that featured at least two other Fight of the Night candidates.
The middleweight rivals both leave New Orleans with an extra $50,000 after earning Saturday’s Fight of the Night award, beating out the emotional main event trilogy bout between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier that marked the end of Poirier’s storied career, and a wild main card welterweight bout between Daniel Rodriguez and Kevin Holland.
Allen vs. Vettori was a highlight of the prelims, which also featured the first six fights of the card ending via knockout or submission. It was Allen who emerged victorious via decision as he battered a resilient Vettori, who continued to return fire and kept his record of never being finished alive, even in a losing effort.
Allen wins Fight of the Night for the first time in his career, while Vettori earns the honor for a third time.
Performance of the Night bonuses went to Ateba Gautier, Islam Dulatov, and Carli Judice.
Gautier needed just 70 seconds to punch out Robert Valentin, Dulatov scored a thudding first-round knockout of Adam Fugitt, and Judice put Nicolle Caliari away with a brutal body shot in the third round.
