White Sox Prospect Season Recap: No. 9, Ky Bush
The 2024 season for the Chicago White Sox was one of the worst in modern day baseball history. They were 41-121 and the worst team in the league by far. The bright spots were few and far between, as the team was very hard to watch for many White Sox fans.
However, down on the farm, the White Sox have some very intriguing players that can give fans a glimmer of hope for the future. We will be recapping the seasons of some of the best prospects in the White Sox system, starting from #30 and going in order to #1 as MLB Pipeline has them ranked. As you’ll see, there are some very intriguing prospects that can help bring the White Sox back to relevance.
Ranked at number nine on the White Sox top prospect list is Ky Bush. Bush had an eventful season, as he made his major league debut with the Sox.
Bush started the season off with the Birmingham Barons, where he was one of the key starting pitchers in their elite starting rotation. In 14 starts with the Barons, he had a 2.02 ERA with an extremely solid 1.03 WHIP. This earned him a promotion to the White Sox in August.
Bush would have an up and down start to his career, as he wasn’t hit particularly hard, he simply had a tough time finding the zone, which is a normal thing for a young pitcher making his first major league appearances.
In 4 starts with the White Sox, he had a 5.60 ERA and a very elevated 2.04 WHIP. He had 16 walks in 17.1 innings, which is the reason for the elevated WHIP. His control was the reason the White Sox sent him down to AAA, where he would finish out the year.

Bush struggled a bit at AAA, as he had a 7.01 ERA over 25 innings with the Knights. Bush knows exactly what the White Sox want him to work on, as if he can accomplish it, he could be good major league starter, as he is a lefty that can throw 95+
This Spring Training will be important for Bush, as if he can show that he has a better command of the strike zone and gets ahead of hitters, there is a chance he could start in the rotation or the bullpen for the White Sox, as he is now 25 years old.
Bush has some great stuff, he just needs to walk less batters. He has had pretty good command throughout the rest of his career, so hopefully 2024 was just an outlier, as when he keeps the walks down, he can be a very good pitcher.
