Flyweight prospect Carlos Lozoya dreams of sharing UFC Austin card with mentor Joe Lauzon

0 6

Carlos Lozoya feels like he’s UFC-bound and has a specific card in mind that he’d love to be part of.

The 26-year-old flyweight prospect has won his past six fights, most recently scoring a second-round knockout win at Fury FC 60 in April.

Training out of Lauzon Mixed Martial Arts in Raynham, Mass., Lozoya (7-2) is hoping to land on the same event as his mentor Joe Lauzon, who fights Donald Cerrone June 18 at the UFC on ESPN 37 card in Austin, Texas.

“Fighting on the same card as Joe Lauzon would be a dream come true,” Lozoya told MMA Junkie. “Joe has been a great mentor. I know I’d be more relaxed with him fighting the same night. I think it would feel a lot like training at the gym seeing him fight the same night as me.”

If Lozoya could pick a desired matchup, it would be contender Kai-Kara France, who’s slated to face ex-champion Brandon Moreno for the interim flyweight title July 30 at UFC 277.

That’s obviously not possible for his promotional debut. Regardless, Lozoya plans on staying ready for any UFC call in case an opportunity arises.

“My dream fight would be against Kai Kara-France,” Lozoya said. “I feel our styles would make for something very exciting. I’m staying ready, my weight is always naturally low, and I never skip on strength and conditioning and train two to three times a day.”
