After more than a year off, Jessica-Rose Clark proud of wrestling showcase at UFC Fight Night 196

LAS VEGAS – Jessica-Rose Clark is pleased with how things went down in her return to competition.

Clark (11-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) fought Saturday for the first time since September 2020 and took a unanimous decision from Panama’s Joselyne Edwards (10-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on the UFC Fight Night 196 main card.

Clark, who’s known for her striking, dominated most of the action with wrestling and top control. The 33-year-old is proud to have showcased that part of her game and prove she’s got plenty of weapons in her arsenal.

“I feel good. I feel really good,” Clark told reporters at the UFC Fight Night 196 post-fight news conference. “(Saturday) was the perfect fight to show everything I’ve been working on.

“It wasn’t as exciting as I wanted it to be, but I showed that I’m more than just a kickboxer and I’m happy bout that. I’ve been working a lot on my wrestling and my grappling, and today was a huge accomplishment.”

Clark is now on a two-fight winning streak after she stopped Sarah Alpar with a third-round TKO more than a year ago. The Australian would’ve been happy with another finish, but she’s also glad she was able to go the distance this time out.

“I know my conditioning is good,” Clark said. “All I’ve been doing is working on my conditioning and my wrestling, but there was definitely some year-off nerves that took the full first round to shake out. A finish would’ve been nice, but I’m also happy that I showed that I can wrestle and grapple for the full 15 minutes and still be strong.”
