THE prize money for athletes who land medals at Tokyo 2020 has been revealed.

But it’s bad news for Team GB winners, who have so far claimed five golds, seven silvers and six bronzes.

The Independent claims British Olympic medallists such as Tom Daley get NOTHING for making it on the podium.

In comparison, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee shells out around £27,000 for a gold medal, £16k for silver and £10k for bronze.

But that’s nothing when it comes to other countries who tend to win fewer medals.

Malaysian athletes get £17k for bronze, £52k for silver and £173k for gold.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong pays £115k for bronze, £230k for silver and £461k for gold.

But Singapore hands out the most, giving £205k for bronze, £266k for silver and an eye-watering £533k for gold.

However, individual Olympic committees are in turn well paid by organisers.

The International Olympic Committee will pocket a staggering £2.8BILLION from television rights.

American TV outlet NBC alone has spent £5.5bn to broadcast all summer and winter Olympics up to 2032.

And Tokyo 2020 alone is estimated to be at least an £11bn event in itself.

As for the true worth of the medals themselves, fans have been left stunned by how low they are.

A gold medal is worth just £587, as it contains only six grams of gold while holding 550 grams of silver.

Indeed, this year’s medals were also made using recycled electronics, including over six million reused mobile phone parts.
