France fans accidentally travel to Romania for Hungary Euro 2020 clash after mixing up Budapest and Bucharest

A GROUP of France supporters heading to see their country take on Hungary last week instead watched it 518 MILES AWAY after confusing Bucharest with Budapest.

Les Bleus maintained top spot in Euro 2020 Group F despite being held to a 1-1 draw on Saturday thanks to Antoinne Griezmann’s equaliser.

The match in Hungary was played in front of a jam-packed crowd – however there were six empty seats after a gang of French fans who had tickets for the game wrongly travelled to Romania instead.

Romanian newspaper Jurnalul National claims the group did not actually realise their mistake until they got downtown in the capital and began drinking.

The group, who work together for a computer company, failed to recognise either the Romanian flags nor the language spoken by the officials at the airport.

And they also spotted some Ukrainian fans – who they wrongly believed to be Hungarian supporters – who were in the city to see their team play on Monday against Austria.

One of the men said: “We thought they were Hungarian fans going to the game and we followed them, thinking that as they were from the city they knew the way to the stadium.

“We have to learn more about Europe.”

The French fans eventually discovered their massive mistake after following the Ukrainian supporters to the old town of Bucharest where they eventually watched the game on TV.

However, it seems Bucharest has now really grown on them as they have decided to stay there to watch France vs Portugal in the final group stage clash tonight.

BETTING SPECIAL: GET RONALDO OR MBAPPE TO HAVE A SHOT ON TARGET AT 30/1

If they win to finish top of the group, then Didier Deschamps’ side will play their round of 16 game on June 28 in Bucharest.

And the group vowed to get a ticket and attend if that was the case.

It comes after six Croatia fans hired a private plane to take them to Scotland for the clash with Czech Republic last Friday – only for them to watch it in Prague instead.

Sebastian Jagic Njare, his brother Simo and friends Domagoj Raljevic and Luka Vojvodic decided that the game was a must-see.

And after securing match tickets, they then decided to book a private jet to fly them from Zemun Airport on Friday morning for the showdown.

But after travelling to Serbia and enjoying a smooth take off, things hit a snag once they arrived in Scotland and were denied entry.

And amazingly they ended up watching the game with their rival supporters 1,178 MILES AWAY!
