Ferdinand’s retaliation came after Richards posted this image to social media

Alongside a hilarious photo of Ferdinand and his former Man Utd team-mates, Richards tweeted: “Bootcut united! Don’t you dare…”

The Red Devils legend was pictured alongside teammates Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Alan Smith and John O’Shea during his early days at Old Trafford.

But Ferdinand was not going to let Richards’ trolling go without a response as he dug out a superb image of his fellow pundit in yellow glasses.

To which Ferdinand added: “We’ve all had bad days but…. wow.”

Both Ferdinand and Richards are currently working as pundits at Euro 2020 for the BBC.

The pair came up against each other several times as players during their careers.

Most notably, they were on opposing sides of the 2012 Premier League title race.

Richards’ Man City side ran out victorious in the final minute of the final day when Sergio Aguero scored in stoppage time to take the 2011-12 title away from Ferdinand’s United side.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand’s former Man Utd team-mate Gary Neville praised England boss Gareth Southgate on Sunday evening after the Three Lions beat Croatia in their opening game of the European Championships.

Speaking during his punditry on ITV, Neville said: “I think we’ve got an outstanding international manager who’s got unbelievable experience.

“I thought he managed that game unbelievably today. You talk about who the best player was, it might be Kalvin Phillips or Raheem Sterling but our biggest asset is our manager.

“The clamour in the past would have been for Grealish and he didn’t even bring him off the bench.

“So, he’s willing to make the unpopular decisions, ones that some of us ultimately – at times – don’t think he should make because he knows that group better than anyone.

“He’s had seven or eight tournaments now, as a coach now, with the U21s, as a player.

“He’s vastly experienced and I feel really comfortable with him there – as an England fan – and what he did today was really good.”
