UFC on ESPN 24 weigh-in results: Two fights scratched

LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC on ESPN 24 fighter weigh-ins, where two fighters missed weight – and two fights were canceled.

The weigh-ins took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Saturday’s card, which airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Among those weighing in were Marina Rodriguez (13-1-2 MMA, 3-1-2 UFC) and Michelle Waterson (18-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC), who meet in the women’s flyweight main event, and Donald Cerrone (36-15-1 MMA, 29-15-1 UFC) and Alex Morono(18-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC), who fight in the welterweight co-feature. All four of those fighters made weight without issue.

Diego Ferreira (17-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) could not say the same, registering 160.5 pounds for his lightweight matchup with Gregor Gillespie (13-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC). Ferreira was fined 30 percent of his purse, but the bout will go on as scheduled.

Additionally, Ryan Benoit (10-7 MMA, 3-5 UFC) came in at 129 pounds for his flyweight contest with Zarrukh Adashev(3-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC). Benoit was visibly shaking as he stepped on the scale and had to be assisted while he walked in what was a rather scary scene, and commission officials quickly ruled him out of the fight.

Finally, Brazilian heavyweight Philipe Lins (14-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) reportedly fell ill prior to the weigh-ins and never made it to the scales. His bout with Ben Rothwell (38-13 MMA, 8-7 UFC) was also scratched.
