Ex-Raiders pass rusher Arden Key reportedly set to visit 49ers

The 49ers will reportedly host a free-agent visit by Arden Key on Tuesday, five days after the defensive end was defiant upon being released by the Raiders.

Key, who turns 25 on May 3, could offer a pass-rushing depth option for the 49ers in advance of the NFL Draft.

His visit to Santa Clara on Tuesday was first reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Key was mostly a disappointment with the Raiders after being a promising third-round pick in 2018 out of LSU during coach Jon Gruden’s first draft upon returning to Oakland. Key didn’t have any sacks in 14 games with the Raiders last season and had just three sacks in 37 games over three seasons.

The Raiders’ patience with Key may have finally run out during a devastating Week 16 loss to the Dolphins. Key committed an egregious personal foul against Miami quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick that helped set up a game-winning field goal for the Dolphins.

Key was also made expendable after the Raiders’ marquee free-agent signing of Yannick Ngakoue, one of the league’s better edge rushers.

If the 49ers like what they see of Key, the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder could further help boost a San Francisco pass rush that should be much improved this season with Nick Bosa returning from a torn ACL, and Samson Ebukam arriving as a free agent from the Rams.
