A two-time featherweight champion, Aldo was getting a crack at the 135-pound title despite losing a close decision to Marlon Moraes in his divisional debut. Regardless, Aldo got the call to fill in one of the spots for a vacant bantamweight title fight, with the other going to Yan, who was off to a 6-0 start to his UFC career.

The two collided at UFC 251 and Aldo showed glimpses of his championship form, but Yan eventually proved to be the superior fighter, finishing Aldo with strikes in the fifth round.

Yan next defends his title for the first time when he takes on Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259 on March 6 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
