Kayla Harrison vs. Cris Cyborg? PFL champion says she would 'jump at that opportunity'

0 9

The old fighting adage states that to be the best, you have to beat the best, and that’s exactly what Kayla Harrison hopes to do.

Already paving her way in the sport, undefeated 2019 PFL women’s lightweight champion Harrison (8-0) recently made a successful featherweight debut at Invicta FC 43, which raised the possibility of potential superfights with some of the greats of the sport.

Harrison had no issue cutting the extra ten pounds before scoring a brutal second-round finish over Courtney King this past weekend in Kansas City, Kan.

With Harrison’s dominance, discussion of potential fights with Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg has already sparked up. Bellator president Scott Coker is known to be open to cross-promotional fights, and the two-time Olympic judo gold medalist said she would welcome a fight with Cyborg with open arms.

“Of course, I would love to fight Cyborg,” Harrison told MMA Junkie. “She’s one of the greats. I don’t think it’ll happen before the PFL season, but I’ll fight anybody. Obviously, Amanda is my teammate, so it’s a little different from the friendship side of it. But she’s the greatest of all time so of course, someday I would like to be considered good enough to fight the greatest of all time.

“That’s the goal, the goal is to become the greatest of all time. But Cyborg is another female superstar, legend. She’s a legend of the sport and I would jump at that opportunity.”

With the 2020 PFL season canceled, Harrison was granted the opportunity to fight at Invicta FC and is hoping to compete one more time before the start of PFL’s 2021 season in April.
