Injured 49ers cornerback suspended two games for performance-enhancing drugs

SANTA CLARA — Cornerback K’Waun Williams, one of the 49ers’ many injured players and pending free agents, has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Williams figured to remain out of the 49ers’ next two games, anyhow, because of a high ankle sprain. Williams missed most of training camp with a calf injury, he was out three games last month with a knee sprain, and then an ankle sprain Nov. 5 against Green Bay forced him out of action again.

This is the 49ers’ first PED-related case since long snapper Kyle Nelson drew a six-game suspension two years ago.

Jamar Taylor has replaced Williams as the nickel back. Williams has served in that role the past 3 1/2 seasons, totaling three interceptions and three sacks in 49 games with the 49ers.

The 49ers’ cornerback corps is expected to welcome starter Richard Sherman back to the lineup Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. He’s been out since the season opener.
