Chicago Bears Insiders Pinpoint The One Trade That Could Happen

One thing that has proven true about Ryan Pace over the years? The Chicago Bears GM tends to save his trade action for before the season. Since taking over in 2015, he has pulled just one trade at the deadline in his tenure. That came back in 2017 when he scooped Dontrelle Inman from the Chargers for a conditional 7th round pick.

Could he finally break that streak this season? A lot of Bears fans are hoping so. This team is 5-1 and squarely in the middle of a playoff push. However, there are some definite flaws on the roster that could use some attention. Particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Not a surprise when a unit ranks 28th in the NFL.

The question is where do they make a move?

Fans and media alike have debated this topic for the past week or longer Most seem to agree that the offensive line needs attention. However, trading for such options is often difficult. In the minds of Bears insiders Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns, the most likely move will come at a different position.

They went through a host of trade possibilities recently. Most of them didn’t generate a positive response for one reason or another. That is until a single name popped up that immediately got their approval. A 7th round pick for Cincinnati Bengals receiver John Ross.

“Fishbain: This should work for both sides. If you’re the Bears, why not take a flier on a guy with speed when you’re struggling so much to create explosive plays? I’m not sure what Ross can bring or how he would fit in, but if the Bears think he can help, this is a reasonable cost.

Jahns: This is a great low-risk move. I’d put conditions on it, too. Ross is another Bengals bust. Drafted ninth overall in 2017, Ross could use a change of scenery. If the Bears still see Ross’ speed, then he could be worth such a move.”

Chicago Bears desperately need speed and Ross has it

This past week it was reported that the former 1st round pick asked the Cincinnati Bengals for a trade. He’s been dissatisfied with his usage in the offense. Just seven targets in six games. One can understand his frustration. The big question is whether his disappointing run there is his fault or is it the inability of the coaches to utilize him effectively?

Nobody can know for sure. That is why making a calculated trade makes sense. Ross is only 24-years old. The trademark of his game is speed. Chicago has lacked explosive plays all season. They’ve desperately needed more speed on the field since Tarik Cohen went down. Ted Ginn Jr. hasn’t stepped up. Only Darnell Mooney has offered them a serious vertical threat.

Ross would bring a little extra juice to the table.

This would be Pace’s kind of deal. A throwaway pick for a talented, young player who might just need a fresh start somewhere else. Why not? If it works out, great. If not, no big loss. Pairing Ross with Mooney on the field would give the Bears tons of options for not just deep shots but yards after the catch. Not to mention being able to space out the defense, allowing Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, and the tight ends more room to make plays as well.

The trade deadline is a week away on October 29th. Odds are whatever Pace plans to do may end up being determined by their Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams. If the offense struggles again, the Chicago Bears GM could be active in finding help.
