OLE SOLSKJAER INSISTS the Manchester United job is not too big for him.

The Norwegian’s managerial credentials have been questioned during the club’s slide into the bottom half of the league.

While he is a club legend on the pitch many fans are questioning how two stints at Molde and taking Cardiff City down warranted his place in the dug out at Old Trafford.

But Solskjaer said: “I’ve never felt it’s too big for me and I’m confident in what we’re trying to do and with my staff.

“The mood here is always good, we’ve come a long way on what you call the culture, environment we’re working in, it’s positive.”

Solskjaer has received the full backing of Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward in the run up to Sunday’s visit of table toppers Liverpool.

That is despite just five wins from their last 23 games under him and the worst start to a season in 30 years.

They could even be in the bottom three by Sunday night.

Yet Solskjaer insists they were going to have to take some blows as they made big short term decisions this summer for what he maintains will be long term gain.

That included getting Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez out the club to help with the mood behind the scenes while promoting Academy graduates.

He said: “I speak to Ed regularly and we have a plan.

“We knew we had to make some decisions in the short-term that would harm us but in the long term would benefit us.

“There’s planning for the next transfer window and summer transfer window

“That’s part of the plan but results are always the main thing and we can move forward quicker with results and performances.”

A result against Liverpool would certainly serve to lift Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is pinning his hopes on one of football’s great clashes raising the players to a level they have not reached since the opening day of the season.

He said: “We have had a rough time lately but this is the perfect game for us.

“The staff and players know when it’s Liverpool coming up it’s a game that’s going to be watched by so many.

“When you sign for Manchester United this is the one you look forward to against one of the main rivals and it’s a chance for them to make history as I did a couple of times by scoring the winner against Liverpool.”
