Man Utd ‘very close’ to agreeing deal for Allegri to replace under-fire Solskjaer, reports in Italy claim

MANCHESTER UNITED are “very close” to agreeing a deal to bring in Massimiliano Allegri to replace under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, say reports in Italy.

The Italian chief, 52, is poised to sign a £6.5m-a-year deal at Old Trafford – with the ex-Juventus boss set to bring a hoard of his old stars with him.

Man Utd are hoping to bring in Allegri to replace under-fire Solskjaer

As well as Mario Mandzukic, Allegri is hoping to have former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can at United.

Allegri has been out of work since leaving Juve this summer – where he was replaced by Maurizio Sarri.

But he could be back in business sooner than expected, thanks to Man Utd’s horror start to 2019-20, according to Tuttsport.

Just eight games into the season and United sit 15 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool – who they face this weekend – in the worst start to a season in 30 years.

Solskjaer could now follow the same fate as Jose Mourinho in being sacked before Christmas amidst a poor run of form.

United lost their last match 1-0 away to struggling Newcastle to further increase speculation Solskjaer could be given the boot.

However, Old Trafford officials must move swiftly, with Allegri wanting as much time fix the club’s “compromised” season.

Should he join the club, Allegri would like to bring Man Utd legend Patrice Evra with him to form part of his backroom staff.

Evra spent eight years at Old Trafford and has recently been undertaking work to complete his Uefa coaching courses.

As well as Juve’s out-of-favour star Can, United are hoping to bring in striker Mandzukic, 33, to fill the cap left by Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

However, Old Trafford chiefs are not willing to bankrupt themselves and will only commission a deal for the Croatian if he’s willing to take a huge cut on his £200,000-a-week wages.
