Buster Skrine Says This Bears Teammate Has Blown Him Away

0 5

Buster Skrine established his goal from the outset when he became a free agent back in January. He wanted to join a winning team. After spending his career with perennial rebuilds like the Browns and Jets, it was hard to blame him. That’s why when the Chicago Bears came calling, it was a no brainer. Not only would he get to join a team that was fresh off a playoff appearance, but also had one of the best defenses in the league. Oh and a defensive backs specialist in Chuck Pagano as their new coordinator.

It couldn’t get much better than that.

Fast forward a few months and Skrine has gotten acquainted with the roster. He’s fit right in with the defense, making his share of nice plays in practice. Expectations remain that he’ll be the starting nickel corner come opening night. One would think his answer to the question of which teammate has impressed him the most down in Bourbbonais would be obvious. After all, Khalil Mack seemed to make a big play every time he set foot on the field.

That’s when Skrine gave Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times a mild shock.

‘‘A-Rob. [Wide receiver Allen Robinson] catches damn near every ball that’s thrown to him. To see a guy that consistent, I give him a lot of props.’’

Buster Skrine certainly sees big things in store for Robinson

You know an impression has been made when a defensive player willingly complements an offensive player. Even if they’re teammates. Skrine was right to say this too. Robinson has had a spectacular training camp according to almost all source. He and Mitch Trubisky are locked in on almost every pattern they’ve run. There is no doubt the 25-year old is the trusted safety valve of the young Bears QB.

It’s easy to forget that Robinson played 2018 coming off a torn ACL. So Chicago wasn’t seeing him entirely at 100%. Not the dominant force he was back in 2015 when he exploded for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. It appears that version of Robinson has re-emerged. He’s quick, sharp, and dynamic in his route running. Defensive backs can’t body him up because of his size and his underrated speed allows him to get open constantly.

Everything points to him having a big season. Exactly what the Bears are hoping for because it will only make life easier for Trubisky. Not to mention the fact that Robinson likely has one eye on the future. Remember that 2020 will be the last year of his current contract. So if he wants a pay raise, then he needs to start turning up the juice.
