MATTHIJS DE LIGT is one step closer to signing for Juventus after Ajax agreed to sell the defender for £67.5million.

Reports in Italy outline a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs after the Bianconeri became clear favourites to snap up the Dutch defender.

His agent, Mino Raiola, named Juve as his likely destination earlier in the month.

At that time, he claimed it was “up to Ajax” to respond to the deal following an agreement between the player and his new club.

On Monday night, Sky Sports Italia reported that the Amsterdam outfit had given their consent to sell de Ligt.

With a £67.5m fee agreed, the 19-year-old will allegedly travel to Turin on Tuesday night before a medical the following day.

It has been previously suggested that Juve are offering de Ligt a five-year deal worth £206,000-a-week.

On top of that is a reported £135m release clause.

De Ligt appeared to be at the centre of a transfer tussle between Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the window.

With his decision to move to Italy, the Red Devils are arguably the most affected given their clear desire for a new centre-back this summer.

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is thought to be top of their list, but the Foxes want upwards of £80million.

And yet, Sun Sport understand that deal to be moving forward with the player desperate to try his luck at United and a £60m up-front payment on the cards, supplemented with £20m of add-ons.
