49ers traveling familiar road with Street

On April 28, moments before the 49ers selected North Carolina State defensive lineman Kentavius Street with the No. 128 overall pick, there were chuckles in their draft room.

The reason: Their decision-makers were aware the fourth-rounder would inspire flashbacks of some horrendous history.

“Oh, yeah, we all knew that,” vice president of player personnel Adam Peters said in June. “We were joking about it … We knew exactly what was going to happen if we took him.”

By taking Street, who participated in his first NFL practices this week, the 49ers traveled the same road as Trent Baalke: The former general manager’s legacy with the team includes his unfortunate penchant for drafting players recovering from serious knee injuries.
