EXTRA Short-track glory for the Netherlands as Schulting takes 1,000m gold
Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Suzanne Schulting took gold in the women‘s 1,000-metre short-track speed skating at the Winter Games in Pyeongchang on Thursday to give the Netherlands yet more glory on the ice.Schulting posted 1 minute 29.778 seconds to finish ahead of Canada‘s Kim Boutin and Italy‘s Arianna Fontana in a chaotic race that saw South Korean pair Choi Minjeong and Shim Sukhee collide as they tried to make their move in the closing stages. The Dutch women‘s short-track team now has Schulting‘s gold to add to the silver won last week by Yara van Kerkhof in the 500m. Boutin becomes just the second woman to win a medal in all three individual events at a single Winter Games. The Canadian took bronze in the women‘s 500m and 1,500m in Pyeongchang. Meanwhile Fontana adds bronze to 500m gold and 3,000m relay silver at Pyeongchang.
